I started working at Mai Po in March 2012, but have visited the reserve regularly since 2002. I love being on the reserve –I have been interested in birds my whole life, and Mai Po is one of the best sites in Asia. But there is also a great diversity of other wildlife as well as birds, from the fiddler crabs in the mangroves, to dragonflies in the freshwater ponds, and to butterflies in the more wooded parts of the reserve. The water buffalo are also great characters and are always doing something interesting. To me, though, the most amazing fact is that all of this can be seen in Hong Kong, a city associated more with high-rise buildings and shopping!
